In week two of Power Play, we talked about how God hopes we respond when we’ve been hurt and feel powerless. What are you going to remember from what you heard?
SCRIPTURE:
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” – Romans 12:17-18 NIV
Power Play – Week 2
Have you ever had a moment where you felt completely powerless? Maybe you found yourself riding in the car on a long trip with a horrible driver and every turn, and every stop, gave you whiplash and made you feel like you were going to throw up. What could you do? You were stuck. And unless you wanted to jump out of the car, you were powerless to do anything about it.
Even worse is when we feel powerless in relationships. When someone has done something to us—or said something about us—and we can’t do anything about it. Most of us will respond to those situations and relationships in one of two ways: we will either get mad or we will get sad. But neither of these responses are beneficial, and often times leads to us reacting in a bad way.
So what do we do when we find ourselves feeling powerless in a relationship?
In Romans, Paul says, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:17-18 NIV). Paul says, “as long as it depends on you” which means, we have the power to decide how we will react and how we will respond. Our choice is to choose peace—not revenge, but peace. Peace is our most powerful play.
What situation do you face today that you need to choose peace? Will you make that choice today?
