In Week Three of ROAD TRIP, we spoke how the road with Jesus changes your mind about others
SCRIPTURE:
Road Trip – Week 3
We all have people in our lives that rub us the wrong way. It might be because we don’t like the way they treat others or because they’re lacking in social skills. Or it might simply be because they’re different than us.
No matter our differences, it’s important to remember that God created our differences for a reason. And although our country has been talking about our differences a lot lately, this is an issue that goes back to the beginning days of Christianity. Here’s how Paul encouraged early believers who were struggling with diversity inside the church:
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you (Ephesians 4:32 NIV).
It may sound cliché, but it’s true: Everyone brings something to the table. Maybe that person you feel is bossy is also really good at advocating for others in a way you’re not able. It could be that woman who always sends the interoffice memo about cleaning out the fridge isn’t trying to be annoying—she just really values order (and good smelling things). Kindness and compassion are found when we look beyond what we perceive as people’s faults and see the good instead.
Is there someone you need to change your mind or attitude about today? Sit down and create a list of three positive things this person brings to the world. Make a point of sharing one of these things with him or her next time you’re together.
