In week one of the series Stepping Up, we will be talking about fear and how, even when we feel afraid, God can still be trusted.  

“They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anakthere.” Numbers 13:27-28 (NIV)

“They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! 8 And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. 9 Do not rebel against theLord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” Numbers 14:7-9 (NLT)

Stepping Up – Week 1

Have you ever found yourself faced with an opportunity to do something you were really afraid of? Moments like these give us the opportunity to do one of two things: face the fear or run in the other direction. And wouldn’t we all like to be known as the person who rises to a challenge rather than the person who runs away from it?

The Bible gives us story after story of people just like us who found themselves in the position to face some pretty big fears. Take Joshua for example. When he was facing a seemingly insurmountable challenge, he didn’t back down. He chose to rise. Why? Because he knew he had something greater than fear on his side.

“….the Lord is with us.” (Numbers 14:9)

Joshua knew God was with him in the face of fear. And it’s the same way He’s with us. His presence is the key to helping us become people who don’t give in to the things we’re afraid of in life. So rather than face your fears alone, consider how you can face them with God. Are you afraid of something today? Ask God to go with you as you walk towards it.
