In week two of the series Stepping Up, we talked about failure and how, even when feel we’re incapable of doing something, God can still be trusted.

SCRIPTURE:

“After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give you to them — to the Israelites.” Joshua 1:1-2 (NIV)

“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” Joshua 1:5-6 (NIV)

Stepping Up – Week 2

Who are you?

Have you ever thought about how you would answer that question? Would you say smart? Or maybe funny? Kind? Athletic? Or maybe your answer would have less to do with who you are and more to do with who you aren’t. You aren’t that smart. Or you don’t think you’re funny. You struggle to be kind. You aren’t good at sports.

No matter how you look at it, the reality is we’re all trying to figure out how to define ourselves. The good news for us is that we don’t have to worry over how to answer that question because God has already answered it for us. And if we believe that He is who He says He is, we can also believe that we are who He says we are.

  • We are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10).
  • We are children of God (John 1:12).
  • We are wonderful (Psalm 139:14).
  • We are strong (Philippians 4:13).

And that’s just to name a few!

Today, choose to answer the question about who you are with some of the truths God gives us in the Bible. Or better yet, rephrase the question. Don’t ask yourself: who am I? Instead, ask yourself: who does God say that I am?
