In week three of the series Stepping Up, we talked about how sometimes God can ask us to do things that don’t make sense. But even when you are unsure, God can still be trusted.

SCRIPTURE:

“Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” Joshua 6:2-5 (NIV)

Stepping Up – Week 3

Have you ever felt like God was asking you to do something that didn’t quite make sense? It kind of makes it hard for us to follow Him when we feel like we don’t fully understand what He’s saying or why He’s saying it, doesn’t it?

Just look at Joshua. What’s he famous for in the Bible? Leading an army to march circles around a city for days. Do you think he came up with that idea on his own? No way! That was a plan straight from God. And even though it didn’t make sense to him, Joshua trusted God enough to follow His instructions. And how did it turn out? Exactly as God promised it would.

When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. (Joshua 6:20)

The truth is we’re not always going to understand what God is calling us to in life. That’s what faith is. It’s believing that God sees the bigger picture even when we don’t. It’s following His lead even when it doesn’t make sense. It’s trusting that He knows what He’s doing—all the time. Is there an area in your life where God is asking you to have trust Him even though you don’t fully understand why? Ask Him to give you the courage and lead you as you step out in faith.
