In week four of Switch we talked about how we can add actions to our feelings of faith.
SCRIPTURE:
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 1:5-8 (NIV)
Switch – Week 4
Who do you look up to? Maybe you’re an athlete and you want to model yourself after someone like Peyton Manning or Stephen Curry. Or maybe you’re a musician and want to become an artist like Taylor Swift. Or maybe you simply want to model your life after someone you love—your parents, your older siblings, your mentors at church. No matter who it is or why you look up to them, there’s something in you that wants your life to look a little more like theirs.
But at the same time, if we’re being honest, there’s something else in you that feels like your life may never look like that. No matter how hard you try, there’s no way you could measure up to the standard they’ve set. In other words, they have something you don’t.
There’s probably nowhere that we feel this more than in our faith. We read about people in the Bible like Moses, Abraham, Paul, and David and think we could never possibly accomplish what they did. We believe that God uses people like pastors, worship leaders, and missionaries for big and incredible things, but He can’t (or won’t) use someone like us.
Well we’re here to tell you the truth: simply put, that’s not true. Not only can God use us to accomplish great things, He will use us. And what’s even better, we already have everything it takes to be used by God. What is it?
….the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:1 NASB).
What do we need to accomplish great things? What do we need to be used by God? It’s the same thing all those spiritual leaders in our lives have, the same thing all those great Biblical figures had too. It’s Jesus. In Jesus, we have everything we need to go forward and do great things. Is there an area of your faith where you’ve held back because you thought you might not have what it takes? Ask God to help you take a step towards it by reminding you that when you have Jesus, you have everything you need.
