In the first weok of Over Time, we talked about how time with God over time equals a relationship.
SCRIPTURE:
Over Time – Week 1
In this day and age, we’re all want immediate results. If we have a question, we go straight to Google. When we send a text, we want a response right away. If we’re hungry, we can hit the drive thru. We can even preorder our coffee at Starbucks to avoid waiting in line! And while all of the things have their benefits, (because who really wants to wait in line at Starbucks?), they’ve also contributed to our overall lack of patience. In other words, when we want something, we’re wired to want it now.
The problem with this mindset is that it can cause us to miss out on some of the best things in life. Because the best things in life—things like your relationships with God, with your family, your friends, your students—these things take time to develop and grow. And if we give up as soon as we have to put in more time, we’ll never experience the depths of how great those things can be!
Check out what Paul says:
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously (2 Corinthians 9:6 NIV).
In other words Paul is saying you’ll get out of something what you put into it. And there’s nowhere this is more true than in our relationships. If you want your relationships with your students to be better, you have to keep showing up and leading them. If you want your relationships with your friends to stay close, you have to keep being a part of their lives. And if you want your relationship with God to grow, you have to keep talking to Him and learning about Him. Good things grow over time. Ask yourself this week how you can sow more time into a relationship that is valuable to you.
