In week two of Wired, we are not only reminded about loving ourselves, but we are also reminded of how we are loved by God. That God loves us no matter what we do, and that we belong to him.

SCRIPTURE:

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning – the sixth day”  Genesis 1:31 NIV
“Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”  Matthew 22:37-39 NIV

Wired – Week 2

We all know that Christians are called to love other people. Jesus tells us that we are to love them as He loves us — but sometimes we forget that we are called to love ourselves too. And loving ourselves means that we believe that we matter. Why? Because God says we matter. Sometimes though, it’s hard to love ourselves because we don’t feel like God loves us. So what do we do when we don’t feel worthy of God’s love?

The best thing we can do is read God’s word to see what He says about us:

  • But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness (Psalm 86:15)
  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son (John 3:16)
  • No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Romans 8:37)
  • Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies (Psalm 36:5)
  •
The truth is, God always loved us exactly as we are. It doesn’t matter what we have done, or what we haven’t done. God will always love us. And because God loves us, we need to love ourselves too. We need to treat ourselves like we matter. Will you take some time today to re-read the scriptures above, and choose to believe that God loves you no matter what? And know that because God loves you, you can love yourself.
