MONTHLY MEMORY VERSE

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NIV

DEVOTIONAL: LET DOWN by XP3

Sometimes as Christians, we find ourselves in a dry season in our walk. And if we were to be really honest, we usually end up in dry seasons because we have walked away from Jesus, although maybe not necessarily to the extreme. We don’t abandon our faith, we just make a few unwise decisions, and before we know it we have wandered in a direction we didn’t intend to go. So what do we do when we find ourselves heading down a path away from Jesus?

Read Luke 24:13-33 NIV

This story takes place after Jesus has been crucified. The Christ these men had been following had just been killed, and they found themselves wondering, “Now what?” So they decide to walk away from it all. They were in essence, walking away from Jesus. But Jesus approached them, and they didn’t even know it at first. In this passage, these men ran into a truth that’s incredibly freeing: Jesus near even when you’re far.

The truth is, when you and I are walking away and find ourselves going backward in our faith, Jesus is not as far off as we think He is. And the secret in this is not to muster up the courage and willpower to make it all the way back to Jerusalem on your own. The Gospel tells us that Jesus actually comes and walks alongside of us, reveals Himself to us, and gives us the invitation to simply turn around.

So if that’s you today, you don’t have to worry. He’s right there. Just turn around…to Him. Because He’s near even when you’re far.
